2024 was eventful

Image
2024 was the most eventful year of my life. So, instead of typing out paragraphs, I'm gonna make a list of big things that happened. • Went to the worst suicide watch EVER • Went to a taping of After Midnight • Found out that my aunt's body was found and buried in 1985 and that, just as we suspected, she was murdered by a serial killer and may have potentially been a victim of human trafficking • Went to Wondercon • Went to a Ducks game • Went to Comic Con Revolution and met the voice of the Clones from the various Star Wars animated series • Went to my first LAFC match, which happened to be Pride night. So I saw my dad as the wonderful ally he truly is as I watched an after-match celebration of Pride play out on the field • Went to a Dodgers game and got to hang with a good friend of mine and meet her new boyfriend • Saw Kaleo in concert • Saw Collective Soul and Hootie and the Blowfish in concert (the former was excellent and the latter sucked. • Made some new friends who l...

My California Decaversary

Tonight will mark a decade since my plane touched down in Ontario, California and my life was changed in ways I never could have expected. When I was moving out here from Tennessee, I didn't want to come. I wanted to stay in Tennessee. I was scared to let go of the place I had called home since I was in diapers. I was scared to move to somewhere that I knew very little about. I only came because the alternative was starving to death in a drafty old house. Sometimes, it's best when the choice is simply life or death. My life has had many twists and turns that I could have never dreamed of, just because I came to California. Many good and many bad. I've made friends and enemies. I've had extreme mental breakdowns and moments of pure joy. I've been to concerts, conventions, sporting events, National Parks, and even the taping of a TV show. I've seen things that I had only ever dreamed I'd see! California is more than a state, to me. It's the symbol of a n...

My take on Dino Thunder

The season opens at the Nexus of Gaia (as seen in Wild Force and Terra Force) where a crack is forming in the ground. From the crack would emerge the white Dino Thunder Ranger. He would summon his zord and destroy the Nexus. In the city of Stone Canyon, 3 dinosaur statues (well, technically 2 dinosaur and 1 pterosaur but even so) would begin to glow at a museum. 3 young adults (Ethan, Kira, and Conner) would approach the statues, because few things are as curious and dumb as people in their early 20s. A worker would warn them to step back but they'd touch the statues. They and the statues would all teleport to some sort of cave. They'd meet a mysterious man named Aba. He says that one of Earth's first Power Rangers was once imprisoned deep beneath the Nexus of Gaia, but has gotten out. His escape triggered the awakening of the zords of the 3 rangers he killed. They ask him how he knows all of this and he just says that he's resourceful and that there's nothing to wo...

My take on Ninja Storm

It is revealed that after leaving at the beginning of Turbo, Adam and Aisha went to Ninjor's temple to find a way to resurrect Rocky. They managed to do it by combining their Zeo powers and an ancient artifact in the temple. After this, the three of them worked to develop a team of ninjetti warriors. Fast forward 6 years: Ninjor's temple has been turned into an academy for ninjetti warriors. Unfortunately, the academy is attacked by Ninjor's brother, Zurgain (he'd probably have a different name but even so.) Zurgain will reveal that he has spent millenia building an army to kill Ninjor, after Ninjor allegedly stole his birthright from him. He would claim that he was supposed to be the temple guardian and priest. Since Rocky killed Ninjor, and this denied Zurgain his vengeance, Zurgain takes Rocky prisoner. Adam and Aisha help a few surviving students to a hidden room in the temple where three special power coins are. They give them to their three best students and plan...

Worst. Suicide Watch. Ever.

Image
Sometimes you just need to be suicidal for a bit, so you can calm down later. That may sound crazy to you, if you've never been suicidal. However, I just got home from being on suicide watch at the ER. Well, I say "suicide watch" but it was more "suicide ignore". Saint Bernadine's hospital in San Bernardino are the worst. You see, I was suicidal. (I was depressed Capitalism has prevented loved ones from having any time for me, so I figured that I'm irrelevant.) I called my therapist. He told my dad to take me to the ER. They took me to the area with the beds and curtains. They sat me there, alone. After getting to the point where my frustration was overcoming my depression, I walked out. Like literally just walked out. They didn't have the door locked or anything. Security and some other workers followed me and I just stood out on the sidewalk chatting with cops and security until my dad came to pick me back up. What if I had just walked into traffi...

Jacob Marley

Marley was dead, to begin with. Seven years to the day, for sure. In that time, his spirit had wandered about, fettered by its chain and weights, longing for the ability to enact the tiniest bit of charity upon the people he once bitterly walked by. He could watch but never interfere. That is, until the 7th anniversary of his death.  When the clock struck midnight on this day, his spirit was called forth to an ethereal judicial bench in an otherwise empty room. At the bench, a spirit suddenly appeared. Its right side was pure white and its left pure black, though that seemed to shift back and forth every few moments. "Jacob Marley?" The spirit said in a booming and yet soft voice "Yuh...yes?" Jacob said, trembling "I am called the Arbiter. I make decisions for appeals, disputes, and the like in the spiritual world. Do you know why you are here?" Jacob shook his head "I wish I could say that I did." The Arbiter continued you "Your constant a...

How I'd do Wild Force

The story begins at the location where the Terra Force Rangers had died. Someone stands among the dust of the fallen warriors, and sends out energy to the dust, creating several orbs. The orbs all vanish in a flash of light. 5 individuals are seen receiving orbs (one each). A radical environmentalist (Taylor), a park ranger (Danny), a veterinarian (Alyssa), a marine life conservationist (Max), and an urban wildlife relocation specialist (Cole). The five would hear a voice that tells them to meet up at a specific location. They arrive at the Nexus of Gaia (seen in my Terra Force post) and meet what looks to be a child but is really an ancient god, named Animus. Animus is the god of all animals. He's one of the children of Gaia, the goddess of Earth. He says that the 5 have been chosen to be his champions in a battle against the Orgs, evil creatures that are created from pollution, both natural and man-made. The Orgs have recently seen a surge in activity, since a prophecy of the re...

My Take on Power Rangers: Time Force

The season opens in the year 3000, at Time Force HQ. Some new recruits are being told (by Jen) the history of Time Force. Basically, Time Force's origins date back to Lightspeed Rescue. Lightspeed Rescue protected the planet and continued to develop new technology. Eventually, they developed three new branches. One branch policed extra-terrestrial activity. One policed inter-dimensional activity. One policed time travel.....and that was Time Force. Time Force has five Power Rangers (well, usually....right now they only have one). Each one is the descendant of former rangers. The morphers cannot be activated without DNA that has the morphing grid signature. The recruits are dismissed and Jen begins to walk out of the room. She is stopped by Alex who tells her not to look so annoyed. She tells him that she signed up for the job so that she could be a police officer and not just someone who gives routine lectures. Alex kisses her cheek and they go to a restaurant. While eating, they ...

My Take on Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue

The season begins with a few veteran rangers working in what looks to be a military base. Suddenly, there is an alarm. An image of batlings attacking the city would appear on a screen. Jason rushes into the room and tells them to activate Operation Lightspeed. Soldiers are deployed to the city. Meanwhile, men in black suits show up at a firehouse, an ER, a Naval Base, an Air Force Base, and a local FEMA headquarters. Soon, five people are escorted into the base and left with Jason. Jason informs them that they have been selected, out of many candidates, to be the new Power Rangers. They get their morphers and go into battle. The following five episodes would give back-story to the rangers. Carter (who would have a more demanding presence) is a firefighter who has gotten many awards for his service. He saved some diplomats from a burning building and even used a firehose to take out some criminals, while the police were on their way. ((Those things are VERY powerful, afterall.)) Da...

My Take on Power Rangers: Terra Force (Lost Galaxy)

The season begins with Angel Grove being rebuilt. During this, a horde of sting-winger attack earth. A few of the former rangers fight them, but are over-powered. Suddenly, five rangers fall from the sky and land in the middle of the battle. They defeat the sting-wingers and demorph. The former rangers ask them who they are and they inform them that they are ancient warriors who were inprisoned by the Machine Empire. They tell them that the prison was broken open when the Z-Wave hit it. They are asked if anything else got out. They tell the former rangers that the sting-wingers are a creation of someone who got out, though they don't know who. They also tell them that a man sent something for them to give to the former rangers. The red ranger holds out Andros' battleizer and gives it to them. ((Quick thing: the rangers DO have the same names as the Lost Galaxy rangers.)) Eventually the former rangers help integrate the new rangers into modern society. Obviously, some humor wou...

My Take on Power Rangers: In Space

The season would begin a few months after Turbo. The rangers would still be in the shuttle, and so they would be a little on edge.......especially since they have no idea how to fly the thing and are relying on a special auto-pilot device that they got from Alpha, before the command center was destroyed. They would stumble upon the Astro-Megaship, which would draw them in. Meanwhile, Andros would be at a United Alliance of Evil celebration. General Havoc would be praised, since he would be the ruler of Earth. Dark Spectre would show up and thank him for bringing Zordon to him. He would tell General Havoc that the celebration is over, and then he would kill him. With General Havoc dead, Dark Spectre would appoint Astronema as the ruler of Earth. Andros, who has spent a while disguised as a villain, tries to sneak away. He is spotted and pointed out to be a traitor. There would be a little fight, but he would escape. The following bit would be pretty much the same as the show. Andr...

My Take on Power Rangers: Turbo

The show would start with the rangers living normal lives. No evil has attacked the planet, in months. However, they are eventually allerted, by Zordon, that the Zeo crystal has been stollen. Zordon would inform them that he and Alpha have worked on new powers, but the rangers cannot use them. I would use some cop-out plot device like "the Zeo powers were meant to be the final evolution in ranger powers, and so any powers added on top of them could kill you" and that Tommy's powers, though derived form Auric's key, are directly connected to the Zeo crystal and so he is unable the morph. Thus: Zordon would bring in a new team. I would bring in Cassie, Ashley, TJ, Carlos, and Justin. However, Justin would not be some annoying kid. He would be maybe 15 or so. Anyway, the new rangers are given the Turbo powers and are sent after the Zeo Crystal. There would be a few episodes of a special quest, which would lead them to discover that General Havoc has hidden the crystal i...

My Take on Power Rangers: Zeo

With the Ninjetti Powers gone and Rocky and Ninjor dead, the rangers are devistated as they see the Machine Empire attack Earth. Soon, the rangers are teleported to the Command center. While there, Zordon informs them that the Zeo Crystal is the oldest power source for the Power Rangers. He tells them that he was once a ranger who used them as a power source. Then he gives them their powers. They are left without a red ranger, but go to battle anyway. During their first fight, they are overwhelmed but are saved by a red ranger. After the fight, he reveals himself to be Jason. Jason leads the team against the machines. There would be several character building episodes for the heroes AND villains. One thing that would be done is that Adam and Aisha would become a couple (because they would be amazing together). Also, the rangers realize that the Zeo powers are growing. They are faster, stronger, more agile, and more durable when they are unmorphed. This enrages King Mondo and he i...

My Take on Power Rangers: Mighty Morphin Ninjetti Rangers

Okay, so the rangers go on the Ninjetti quest. During the quest, they go through several trials and issues. They have to go through a maze, face a Sphynx (because I love the idea of the Sphynx in a lanbrynth), face darker versions of themselves, and kinds of stuff. During one of the trials or whatever, Tommy falls into a chasm, which closes up. Thus: he's gone. Anyway, they get to Ninjor and he gives them the Ninjetti powers (after telling them that all of the tests were to prove that they are worthy of the Ninjetti powers). The powers the Kakuranger suits (because I despise the Alien Rangers). Ninjor appoints Adam as the leader. Seeing that the rangers have not been destroyed, Master Vile comes to avenge his daughter (secretly knowing that Zedd is really responsible). He works with Zedd and comes up with several great ideas. One of which is to find the mysterious Zeo crystal, which holds powers beyong that of the Ninjetti. During the season, Skull dials down on his cheesy pick-up...

My Take on Power Rangers: Mighty Morphin Thunder Rangers

With the arrival of Lord Zedd, Zordon gives the rangers the Thunder Powers (including the Dairanger suits). Tommy is left out because there was only enough power for 5 rangers. He sticks around as a supporting character and Kimberly's boyfriend, until Zordon and Alpha eventually develop the white ranger powers. When Tommy rejoins the team, Jason starts to feel less important in his role as leader. When Zack and Trini are almost killed after Jason makes a bad call on a mission, Jason leaves the team ans gets replaced by Rocky. While Zack and Trini are injured, they're benched and Adam and Aisha come in. (Those two and Rocky would have shown up at the start of the season and would have been built up as close friends to the rangers.) Seeing how well Adam and Aisha are doing, Zack and Trini decide to leave the team after recovering. So, this season ends with Rito coming to get revenge for his sister. Zedd tells him that the rangers killed his sister, and he believes him. Rito un...

My Take on Power Rangers: MMPR

The first episode would have a monster attacking the city. Jason and Trini, who are on a field trip together, fight it. During the fight, they are somehow given the strength to defeat the monster. They get teleported to the command center and are informed that an evil witch has returned from exile. They are given the red and yellow powers. Throughout the course of the next few episodes, Kimberly, Zack, and Billy would get their powers and join the team. After they all get their powers, they would be given the megazord. Then there would be a few character building episodes. Eventually, Green With Evil would begin. Tommy would meet them the same way he did in the actual show (at a martial arts competition.) He would be chosen by Rita to be her ranger. He is given the powers and trashes the command center. When he faces the rangers, he almost kills them. He decides to try to take them out, one by one. Tommy asks Kimberly out and ends up luring her into a trap, on the date. Tommy tort...

Something I found on Facebook

I found this on Facebook. Apparently, back in 2013 I wrote the prolonged to a Power Rangers fan fiction that I never followed up on. It may have been what inspired the story I wrote about a Machine Empire apocalypse. I don't know. Still, it's pretty bloody cool, so I figured I'd share it with you guys. Angel Grove -   Smog fills the warm air, as bits of sunlight peer through. From what can be seen, it's almost dusk. A lone woman walks through the rubble of what used to be the Park/DeSantos Martial Arts Academy. She squats down and pulls away some of the rubble, finding what appears to be a journal. The cover reads   My Life as a Power Ranger.   She picks it up, flips to the last page that has writing, and begins reading.   It's been ten years since the invasion and people still ask me where I was when they took over the world. They ask me how I reacted to the invasion. They ask me if I would have fought, had I been able to do so. Every time, I lie.   I was in St...

2022: A Year to Remember

2022 has been the most eventful year of my life, thus far, and I mean that in a good way. Every month had something memorable happen. So, instead of ranting about the year, I'm going to break it down with memorable things from each month. January: Mom went to her first Ducks game, cementing her fandom. That was a major win for me and dad...and the Ducks also won that night. Mom and dad adopter a dog named Pepper. Pepper became Wrecker's best friend. I've never seen two dogs with a closer bond than they have. I read the Lord of the Rings books and LOVED them. I accepted my bisexuality and proudly came out. February: I took a 31 hour train from LA to Seattle. I wanted to see the Pacific Northwest in the winter and I did. It was breathtaking. I remember seeing a bald eagle take flight by a frozen lake, as I rode the train through Oregon. While in Seattle, I finally hung out with my friend CJ (who is like a brother to me.) We ate tossed salads and scrambled eggs while watching ...

Some Words About the Christmas Spirit and Myself

On Festivus (December 23), I was talking to my therapist. I mentioned that I'm anticipating a post-Christmas depression to begin on the night of Christmas. It often happens. In the same conversation, I talked about how I look for the right gifts for people throughout the year and how I keep the spirit of Christmas in my heart. He asks me why I get depressed, then. I told him it's because the world doesn't keep the spirit of Christmas through the year. He told me that that's why "elves" like me exist. That stuck with me. Then, today, my friend Danielle called me "my personification of Christmas". It got me to thinking. You see, I have my tattoo of a heart with a stake of holly through it because "A Christmas Carol" is my favorite book and my brother designed the tattoo (since I wanted a tattoo in reference to my favorite book.) I'm not just one of those "idiots" Scrooge spoke of who goes around with "merry Christmas" ...

Los Angeles Comic Con 2022

I want to talk about this year's LA Comic Con, since it was a truly fantastic weekend for me. This will be long, so I don't expect anyone to read it. Lol Even so. Friday started with seeing my friend Alyson, who I'd be seeing a couple times a day through the weekend. I gave her a Christmas gift from me and one from my mom. Then I made my way over to some comic creators. I went to see Donny Cates, first. He has a fake cult that I'm part of. I was wearing the shirt and pin, and carrying the membership card in my wallet. Because of this, he was like "All of that paid off because the autograph is on the house." He and I chatted a bit. He's such a nice guy! Then I went to see Meghan Fitzmartin, writer of the current Tim Drake comic. I got some autographs and talked about comics with her. I expressed why I love her current series, which she appreciated. Next to her was Tini Howard, a comic writer who I have a major crush on. We talked about comics for several m...
