Iceland - Day 12 - In Which Our Hero Gets In Touch With His Heritage

Day 12 - October 8

I woke up and had some tea. I chatted with a nice couple from Chicago. Typical morning at the guesthouse. Afterward, I went to the national museum. When I saw the weapons, I felt a strong connection with my viking age ancestors. Though they didn't go to Iceland, those were the exact same kinds of weapons they used. Actual ancient swords, spearheads, and axheads? It was just so amazing! The things I learned about Iceland's history were great, but the weapons just made me feel so happy. Not in a psychotic way, mind you. My ancestors were warriors, so yeah.

I took the bus back to the guesthouse, but accidentally took one going the opposite way. So, I took the long way around. I went shopping for my final souvenir and ran into some people from my first adventure here. I was masked, not wearing a hat, and wearing a different coat and yet they knew who I was. It showed how tight our group was. I also saw a guy who was severely mentally ill, on drugs, or both. I think he said something inappropriate to a random woman but I don't know for sure. It felt like I was back in San Bernardino, for a moment. Not even joking.

Eventually, I went over to visit my friends (who are practically family to me). We ate pizza and had great conversation. The time flew by. It was almost midnight when I left. I was there for around 5 hours. Of all the things I've done in Iceland, nothing has been better than spending time with them. I can see natural wonders in the US, but I can't visit these people in the US. Nope. Only Iceland. One of their cats even greeted me with excitement. It's like he and my pekingese were swapped at birth since he's like a dog and my pekingese has the personality of a cat. Strange.

With only two days to go before I leave this wonderful country (pending a negative covid test, since a positive one would leave me in government quarantine), I can certainly say that I've had the time of my life. Not just because of the nature, but also because of the family.
